On Sunday night, Donald Trump took aim at Weekly Standard Editor and staunch conservative Bill Kristol, who suggested on Twitter that news of an “impressive” independent conservative presidential candidate is forthcoming. Kristol had been talking about a third party run agenda for weeks prior.
Kristol tweeted “Just a heads up over this holiday weekend: There will be an independent candidate–an impressive one, with a strong team and a real chance.” The name of the candidate is not revealed, and as of Monday, Kristol still has not unveiled the mystery candidate. Many hold doubts over Kristol’s announcement after the back fire of the Mark Cuban suggestion.
Trump criticized Kristol, calling him a “dummy” and “an embarrassed loser” in a series of fired off tweets. Trump also implies the pundit mirrors a lack of party unity that could affect the ideological composition of the Supreme Court. “The Republican Party has to be smart & strong if it wants to win in November. Can’t allow lightweights to set up a spoiler Indie candidate!,” said Trump.
