One thing is for certain with presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump: he is the Twitter King of modern day politics. A significant portion of his following is due to the factor of his Twitter account, which has played a large role in transcending Trump from an average candidate to the unstoppable force that crushed the other 16 Republican candidates by wide margins. His tweets have labeled political professionals into immature mockeries (“Crooked Hillary,” “Lyin’ Ted,” “Goofy Elizabeth/Pocahontas”) and he has created a forum where there is essentially no barriers nor political correctness. It’s all in – Trump can say whatever comes to his mind, and people either love it or hate it.

However, there are four necessary tidbits to know about Trump’s Twitter account. Some of these tidbits debunk certain myths and give insight into the person that’s typing through the mobile phone to millions of followers.

    1. HIS TWEETS USED TO BE BORING: Before the 2016 presidential race, Trump’s tweets were actually kind of boring. Registered in 2009, the page mainly consisted of promotions for upcoming Trump media appearances written in the third person, as if he was not the one sending the tweets out. His first tweet ever:  “Be sure to tune in and watch Donald Trump on Late Night with David Letterman as he presents the Top Ten List tonight!” So yeah, it remained rather mundane until 2011 when Trump began releasing tweets demanding President Obama release his birth certificate. Oh, and he had some rather downright odd, questionable tweets in his early years… Screen Shot 2016-06-02 at 8.28.46 PM

    2. TRUMP TWEETS MORE ABOUT THE MEDIA THAN POLITICS: However, Trump’s tweets didn’t stay boring for long. As he announced his back in 2015 and the speed of the Trump Train picked up, the business mogul became immersed into the political world. Although, most of Trump’s tweets are mostly about the media rather than about policies or political legislation. In fact, according to a study, Trump tweets about the media 3.5 times more often than he tweets about politics. Many of these posts are promotions for his TV interviews, “I will be interviewed” is Trump’s second most-tweeted phrase. His first? “Make America Great Again.”Screen Shot 2016-06-02 at 8.34.54 PM

    3. HE DICTATES HIS TWEETS TO A “TWITTER TEAM” (Except After 7PM): Surely, it’s not too surprising Trump tweets more about the media due to his background, but what most people don’t know is that the business mogul is too busy working to type out those tweets himself. Until 7pm hits when he’s off the clock, Trump will shout out thoughts, ideas and statements to be made into tweets, which are sent out by a “Twitter Team” of staffers. “During the day, I’m in the office, I just shout it out to one of the young ladies who are tremendous,” Trump told Anderson Cooper at a CNN town hall event. “I’ll just shout it out, and they’ll do it.” Trump even yells out to the team “Exclamation point!” to hammer down the punctuation.Screen Shot 2016-06-02 at 8.44.33 PM

    4. A LOT OF PRO-TRUMP ACCOUNTS ARE RAN BY BOTS: With all the tweets being sent out, either by Trump or his Twitter Team, legions of fan accounts have arisen in support of Trump. However, don’t be fooled. Like many fan accounts for political figures and celebrities, hundreds of fan accounts are actually fake and ran by “bots.” Patrick Ruffini, a digital-analytics expert, discovered at least 465 fake pro-Trump accounts, all of which had zero followers and send out the exact same tweet at the same time. The accounts didn’t even follow Trump’s real account! But don’t let that imply anything; at the end of the day, bots can’t vote.Screen Shot 2016-06-02 at 8.52.08 PM
