Rose McGowan, the actress who became the central figure in the Harvey Weinstein scandal, turned herself in to police Tuesday on an arrest warrant for possession of drugs.
McGowan came out publicly in October, revealing that she had been raped by Weinstein in 1997, and had been silenced after accepting a settlement in the case.
Authorities issued a warrant for McGowan’s arrest on February 1, 2017, after she dropped her wallet at the Washington Dulles International Airport on January 20. The wallet was discovered later by a cleaning crew, and found to contain two small bags of cocaine, along with her medical marijuana card.
After news of the arrest warrant went public at the end of October, McGowan wrote on Twitter, “Are they trying to silence me? There is a warrant out for my arrest in Virginia. What a load of HORSES–T.”
She turned herself in to authorities Tuesday, in Loudoun County, Virginia, where she was arrested, booked into the system, and had to take a mugshot. She was then released on a $5,000 unsecured bond, The Blast reported.
Many Twitter users are noting the irony that McGowan was arrested, while her accused rapist still roams free.
News: Rose McGowan has turned herself in to authorities in Virginia on a felony warrant from February 1st. Authorities claim that items she left behind on a United flight tested positive for narcotics. Many details still unclear.
