More tragic details are surfacing Wednesday following the terrorism-related truck attack in Manhattan on Halloween, with a young Belgian mother of 3-year-old and 3-month-old boys being confirmed as one of the victims.

Ann-Laure Decadt, 31, from the town of Staden, was visiting New York City with her mother and sisters and was riding a bike on the path which terrorist Sayfullo Saipov chose to target with a Home Depot truck.

Her husband, Alexander Naessens, told Belgium’s HLN newspaper that she was riding a bike when she was struck from behind by the Home Depot truck.

“This loss is unbearable and cannot be overcome,” Naessens said. “She was a wonderful wife and the most beautiful mom of our 3-month- and 3-year-old sons.”

Naessens said he received a call from Presbyterian Hospital officials who told him about the attack and broke the tragic news about his wife.

He added that her mother and sisters were “happily unharmed.”

Staden Mayor Francesco Vanderjeugd, a spokesman for the family, said the village of 11,400 people is in shock.
