Former Vice President Joe Biden is feeling regret about the 2016 presidential race. Speaking exclusively to Oprah Winfrey, Biden said he feels that he was the most qualified person to be president at the end of the previous administration.

The sit-down with Winfrey, which aired on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Thursday morning, featured Biden’s ruminations about the 2016 race and his remorse over not running for the nation’s top office.

“I have a regret that I am not president,” Biden said, “because I think there is so much opportunity.”

Commenting about the qualifications for the office, Biden said he would have been the “most qualified person” to make a bid for president in 2016, indicating he believes twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s qualifications were not as meaningful as his own.

“Oprah, no woman or man should announce they’re running for president unless they can answer two questions,” Biden told the media mogul, who was an ardent Clinton supporter. “One [is], do you truly believe you’re the most qualified person at the moment — I believed I was.”

Winfrey and former President Barack Obama believed Clinton was qualified. Last year, speaking on T.D. Jakes’ self-titled talk show, Winfrey encouraged voters to choose Clinton. “There really is no choice, people,” she said in October 2016.

She said she would often hear comments like, “‘I just don’t know if I like her.”

“She’s not coming over to your house,” Winfrey finished. “You don’t have to like her. Do you like this country? Do you like democracy or do you want a demagogue?”

Obama said there was “nobody” more qualified than the former secretary of state for the presidency. Gushing over her during the campaign, Obama said, “That’s the Hillary I know. That’s the Hillary I’ve come to admire. And that’s why I can say with confidence there has never been a man or a woman—not me, not Bill, nobody—more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as president of the United States of America.”

Biden also reportedly said that Clinton’s “backers” would have taken him out and that he didn’t feel ready to put his whole heart into a race in 2016. The “Good Morning America” team seemed to think Biden’s admissions were in preparation for a run in 2020.
