Hillary Clinton’s economic adviser can’t answer the question – but his boss couldn’t answer it either.

In an interview on January 5, Chris Matthews asked Hillary Clinton, “What is the difference between a socialist and a Democrat?”  Clinton finally managed to say, “I am not one (socialist)… I am a Progressive Democrat who likes to get things done.”  She never answered the question, evading it instead.

In an interview with MSNBC’s Peter Alexander this week, Gene Sperling, economic adviser to Clinton, had a chance to answer the question himself – he couldn’t do it either, evading the question just as Clinton had done, and instead inserting what Clinton stood for as a “progressive Democrat.”

“Look, I’m not here to do general definitions but I believe that the kind of progressive Democrat that she is, is one that understands that we are, of course, a free market economy. That we, of course, rely on job creation, small business … entrepreneurship,” Sperling said.
