Former FBI Director James Comey sent out a statement on Twitter Monday, following the news of a 12-count indictment of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.
Manafort and his business partner, Richard Gates, both pleaded “not guilty” in the indictments Mueller filed against them, which include conspiracy and failure to register as foreign agents.
“Man’s capacity for justice makes democracy possible, but man’s inclination to injustice makes democracy necessary,” Comey stated in the Twitter post.
Comey released the statement from an alias Twitter account under the name Reinhold Niebuhr, which he recently revealed to be his. Niebuhr was an American theologian about whom Comey wrote in his college thesis.
