Dr. Cornel West, the first African American to graduate from Princeton with a Ph.D., has announced who he is endorsing for President in the 2016 election. The Democratic Socialist is not in it for Donald Trump, but he’s not endorsing Hillary Clinton either.
West is endorsing the radical progressive third party candidate, Jill Stein of the Green Party. The philosopher called Stein “the only progressive woman in the race” in a Guardian editorial. He wrote Donald Trump is “a neo-fascist catastrophe” and Hillary Clinton is “a neo-liberal disaster.” So, instead of choosing between the two, he’s throwing away his vote to the leader of the Green Party.
West announces his endorsement in his Facebook post, where he also denounces President Obama:
I’ve always talked about hope. Black Lives Matter – and all other young people of all colors who are mobilizing – is a beautiful thing because it gives us democratic hope.
The President’s refusal to engage deeply with systemic problems facing our country came back to haunt America last week. This November, we need change — and although I have a deep love for my brother Bernie Sanders, I disagree with him on supporting the neo-liberal disaster that is Hillary Clinton. I am supporting Jill Stein – the only progressive woman in this race.
