Roughly one-hour after Senator Ted Cruz rejected the promise he made months ago to endorse and support the Republican nominee, Governor Mike Pence took the stage and helped change the narrative left by Ted Cruz.
Pence was introduced by Speaker Paul Ryan, who told the crowd that Pence will make Republicans when he enters the White House as VP.
Pence took the stage and the first words out his mouth: “Mr Chairman, delegates, friends and my fellow Americans, thank you from the bottom of my heart, I am humbled by your confidence, and I accept the nomination of serving as the VP of the United States of America.” After the crowd went wild in applause, Pence went on to say, “I am a Christian, a conservative and a Republican in that order.”
He started off by speaking about growing up in southern Indiana with JFK and MLK being his heroes. He said he was raised to appreciate hard work and that his dad was a combat veteran in Korea. His dad is no longer alive, but his mother was in attendance and he had her stand for the crowd. She received a standing ovation.
Pence talked about being a part of the Reagan revolution. But he said the greatest thing to ever happen to him was meeting his wife — they’ve been together for 31-years. And then he said the most important job he will ever have is being a DAD. He has three kids, one of which is a US MARINE. When he mentioned his son the crowd went wild.
Pence, once done speaking about his family, dove into praising Trump and the crowd loved it! The Indiana governor said the American people are tired of DC. And he vowed to work hard to make it so Hillary Clinton will never become the president.
Pence punched on the weak policies of the left, but what really resonated was his connection to the American people and the problems we face. Jobs, national security, a police force suffering from unfair scrutiny, open borders, poor veteran care… the list goes on. He then expressed how Trump will be a great leader who will make the needed changes. He punctuated it all by saying, “Donald Trump will make the needed changes, and the changes will be HUGE.”
What really got the crowd going was the emphasis on protecting the unborn life, the 2nd Amendment, and ensuring the Supreme Court is not liberal leaning for the next 40-years. He then transitioned into speaking about foreign policy. When mentioning Benghazi he repeated Hillary’s comments about, “What difference does it make?” He said that any person to utter such words has no right being the president.
He blamed Obama for “a world spinning apart.” He said, “We cannot have 4 more years of apologizing to our enemies and abandoning our friends.” He declared that Trump will be tough on terror, and that he will rebuild the US Military. And he promised that the world will know with Trump as president the world will know America stands with Israel.
But his biggest applause came when he said, “President Obama’s presidency ends in 6-months from today.” He said Obama’s last months are not going well. He closed by stating what unites us is stronger than what divides us, and we are “One Nation Under God With Liberty and Justice For All.”
Gov. Pence ended by stating, “If you want a president who protect this nation, and a president who will restore law and order, cut taxes, and build strong borders, and who will upend the status quo in DC and uphold the Constitution, we have but one choice — that man is ready — this team is ready — when we elect Donald Trump as president we will make America great again!”
