While the media continues to harp on Donald Trump’s Trump University case, it is important to realize this isn’t Trump’s first rodeo dealing with a lawsuit. In fact, the number of lawsuits the Republican candidate has to deal with in the last 30 years is staggering.
In a USA Today report, it is estimated at around 3,500 lawsuits. “They range from skirmishes with casino patrons to million-dollar real estate suits to personal defamation lawsuits,” USA Today notes, adding the number of lawsuits “is unprecedented for a presidential nominee.” USA Today’s analysis showcased Trump and his businesses settled with roughly 100 plaintiffs, who mostly claimed to have been physically injured on one of his owned properties.
“I think we have far less litigation of companies of our size,” Alan Garten stated, the General counsel for the Trump Organization. “Our philosophy is that we are a company of principle. When we believe we are in the right, we are going to pursue the matter to the end. If that requires that we go to trial and present evidence to a jury, we are prepared to do so. We are not going to cave to pressure.”
