Amid the latest developments in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe, Rep. Maxine Waters slammed Attorney General Jeff Sessions following newly unsealed documents which are calling his credibility into question.

“Sessions doesn’t remember what he said, when he said it, & where he was when he said it. Don’t blame him,” the California Democrat tweeted Friday afternoon, adding, “Time to go back to the plantation.”

One member of Trump’s foreign policy team, Carter Page, said on Thursday that he told Sessions in passing in June 2016 that he planned to travel to Russia for a trip “completely unrelated” to his volunteer role in the campaign. “Understandably, it was as irrelevant then as it is now,” said Page, who traveled twice to Russia in 2016.

Democrats in the Senate said on Thursday that they would push to have Sessions return to the Judiciary Committee for further questioning.

“He now needs to come back before the committee, in person, under oath, to explain why he cannot seem to provide truthful, complete answers to these important and relevant questions,” said Judiciary Committee member Senator Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vermont), noting that Sessions’s testimony was under oath and “wasn’t just some random comment he made in passing on the street.”

The attorney general faced similar questions in January before the Senate Judiciary Committee, when Senator Al Franken (D-Minn.) asked him about contacts between the campaign and Russia. “I’m not aware of any of those activities,” Sessions said, adding that he did not have any such contacts himself.

When Sessions gave testimony during a Senate hearing in June about Russia’s influence on the election, he said “I don’t recall” numerous times.

During a March 2016 meeting, President Trump and Sessions met with former campaign adviser George Papadopoulos. Papadopoulos reportedly suggested Trump should consider traveling to Russia to meet with Russian government officials, with whom he had connections.

Earlier Friday, Trump said: “I don’t remember much about that meeting. It was a very unimportant meeting. Don’t remember much about it.”

Papadopoulos recently pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian nationals.

A rabid Trump-hater, Waters is also no fan of Sessions. In September, she tweeted: “To Jeff Sessions, how does it feel to be dragged & humiliated? Now you know how the African Americans you disrespected feel.”

That particular tweet came in response to reports that President Trump was angry at Sessions for allowing the appointment of Mueller.
