An armed man who took hostages at an Amarillo, Texas Walmart store Tuesday afternoon has been shot and killed by a SWAT team.
The gunman has been identified as 54-year-old Mohammad Moghaddam, a Somali man who was an employee of the store. Authorities say he became upset after not being offered a promotion, and had a dispute with the manager.
He had barricaded himself, the manager and another store employee inside an office area. The two hostages were not injured.
The incident began about 11 a.m., and law enforcement were able to locate the gunman, fatally shooting him over an hour later.
As the SWAT team was getting into place inside the building, one hostage ran out of the office, and the gunman took off after her, holding his weapon. Two officers then shot and killed him.
Police are classifying the incident as workplace violence, and say there is no reason at this time to believe it was an act of terrorism, according to Amarillo Globe News.
