Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, is claiming Hillary Clinton and the establishment are rigging the presidential debates. Trump revealed why in an interview on ABC’s This Week: “Well, I’ll tell you what I don’t like. It’s against two NFL games, I got a letter from the NFL saying, this is ridiculous… because the NFL doesn’t want to go against the debates,” he said.

Yes, two major football games fall in the same slots as the presidential debates. The theory is that viewers will be tuned out of the debates to watch the games, thus taking any viewership towards The Donald demolishing Hillary in political debacle. And he’s got a point, considering the same thing happened with Hillary in the primaries against Bernie Sanders.

“Why did Mr. Trump say that Clinton is trying to rig the debates?” CNN’s Brian Stelter asked Trump spokesman Jason Miller. Miller replied:

“Brian, if you take a look back at Hillary Clinton’s track record in the primary, numerous times they had pushed to go on and have debates at the same time as other big events that were going on, head to head against things that would be big conflicts and keep voters excluded. Our focus, we want as many people involved as possible.”
