Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump is slowly but surely picking up new supporters from some of his fiercest critics everyday as the November election draws closer. His newest supporter is someone who is working very closely yet quietly to whip up and rally anti-Trump GOP elites to support, endorse and donate to Trump’s campaign to counterattack a Hillary Clinton presidency.
A few weeks ago, Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina was not aboard the Trump Train and denounced the candidate when he could. Now after a pleasant phone call with Trump, Graham was seen urging GOP donors at a private fundraiser Saturday in Florida to unite behind Trump’s campaign so the Republicans don’t fall to four years of Hillary.
“He did say that we need to get behind him,” Teresa Dailey, a prominent Florida Republican fundraiser who attended the private event for U.S. Ambassador to Portugal Al Hoffman, told reporters on Sunday night.
Kevin Bishop, a spokesman for Graham, would not elaborate on what Graham said exactly but implied the senator believes a third party run would be foolish and the GOP’s best bet was to get behind Trump. Both Dailey and Bishop confirmed Graham has no intentions to publicly endorse Trump anytime soon, but is definitely working privately and secretly to get those still resisting the Trump Train on board.
