Yes, Senator Ted Cruz failed to endorse Donald Trump and it was a lowlife move. And many are stating it’s because Cruz is positioning himself for a presidential run in 2020 or 2024. There is legitimacy to that statement. But what he did this evening is equal to political suicide. So why? Why would a smart guy do something so dumb?
If Trump wins the presidency, the chances for Cruz to win in 2024 are nil. Gov. Pence and many others who are part of the Trump train will have all the leverage to win. Cruz must know this.
In 2012, Romney lost the election because more than 3-million conservatives didn’t show up to vote. If that happens again in 2016 then Hillary will win the White House. If so, the blame will fall on the shoulders of Cruz — nobody will vote for him in 2020. He should know this, and odds are he does. But I don’t think he cares — not today anyway.
I think Cruz is exactly what I’ve said about him all along…. He is a hot-head who remains pissed off about what took place during the primaries.
Tonight, Cruz didn’t care about 2016, 2020, or 2024. He was blinded by his own anger. Tonight, Cruz saw one thing only — he saw his chance to give Trump the middle finger for posting ugly photos of Heidi Cruz on Twitter. This was his chance to give pay back for Trump’s claims against Cruz’s father (Trump said Cruz’s father played a role in the death of JFK). Tonight was Cruz’s last and biggest opportunity to hit back at Trump for tagging him as “Lying Ted.”
Ted Cruz went into this evening wanting the last laugh. He went in wanting to screw Trump for screwing with the Cruz family. So perhaps it was political suicide, but for Cruz is was more about winning a fight against a guy who claims never to lose. But the problem is Cruz walks away looking like a loser. The question is, will we all lose because of his hot headedness?
Here is the tweet from Trump this evening:
