Press freedom is heavily restricted in Turkey, but this paper got by freely with the breaking news headline: “Death toll rises to 50 in bar where perverted homosexuals go!”
The “Yeni Akit” is a Turkish newspaper that has strong ties to Turkey’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his party, the AKP, and is also well known for its hate speech against LGBT groups, Christians, Armenians and Jews.
Erdogan has been described as Obama’s “most trusted foreign ally.”
Erdogan came to the U.S. to attend a nuclear security summit the end of March, and said in an interview with CNN on March 30, “I expect an official declaration that Islamophobia is a crime.”
On April 2, Erdogan was the keynote speaker at the grand opening of a brand new $110 million mosque in Maryland – described as the largest Islamic campus “in the Western Hemisphere”.
The mosque was almost entirely funded by the Religious Affairs and the Religious Foundation of Turkey.
Erdogan is a self-described “servant” of Sharia law. His newspaper just got away with a headline that many are interpreting as celebrating the Orlando terrorist attack rather than condemning it… and he just celebrated the grand opening of a large Islamic campus on U.S. soil that a Turkish organization paid for.
