On Friday afternoon at 3pm, a Secret Service officer shot an armed individual when the person approached the White House complex brandishing the weapon in plain sight. The incident put the White House temporarily on lockdown. The approaching individual was commanded to drop the weapon but did not adhere to the Secret Service’s order. As a result, the Secret Service were forced to open fire, shooting the suspect in the stomach.
The incident prompted Secret Service to clear the White House lawn, putting the entire complex on lockdown. The shot man was brought to a local hospital and is currently in critical condition. It is believed the man is the only one involved in the incident, and is the only one currently in custody. His name has not been disclosed yet.
“No one within or associated with the White House was injured, and everyone in the White House is safe and accounted for. The president has been made aware of the situation,” the White House said in a statement. President Obama was not in the White House at the time, he was out playing more golf again, but Vice President Joe Biden was present. No further information has been brought forward about the motives of the shot individual.
